Announcing the Re-Launch of Technical.chat

K

In late 2018, I decided to launch a new forum called Technical.Chat however the forum failed to take off. It was powered by a powerful yet clunky commercial forum platform that was slow and did not embrace modern responsive web technologies that make the forum work horribly on mobile devices. I closed the forum a few months after it’s launch to focus on other projects and to find solutions to address some of the problems with the old software platform. I am officially ready to announce the re-launch of Technical.chat!

Amazon Scam Breakdown : The Bait And Switch for False Reviews

K

I was doing some window shopping this morning while waiting for some code to build on my computer and a item that Amazon recommended to me quickly caught my eye. It is clearly a fake 2 TB USB Flash Drive which is unremarkable as I have seen countless fakes and even wrote about it back in 2018, the thing that caught my eye on the listing is that the flash drive had over 360 reviews with a 4.5 star average review. How could this be??? Is there actually a legitimate way to get 2 TB of real flash storage for under $100 or is there something fishy going on? Oh yes, its definitely rotten fish. I stumbled into a bit of a rabbit hole this morning while doing some research on how this scam works.

Rethinking Life in a Post COVID-19 World

K

I have been thinking a lot over the past several months to try to make sense of the uncertain future that awaits us as we learn to cope with the impact COVID-19 has had on society and what our future looks like. It is highly unlikely that COVID-19 will ever disappear and will likely haunt us for the foreseeable future. COVID-19 has opened many people’s eyes and it is clear that the way we have been doing things in the past are no longer wise to continue to do the same way in the future. This post is a brain-dump of some of my thoughts and ideas as to how things should change in the future to adjust to life in a post COVID-19 world.

ePaper Dashboard POC

K

I was a bit bored after work and decided to mess with a ePaper Display I purchased a while back ago to try to create a basic dashboard. This is a complete hack but it shows some of the potential uses of this display. I posted a few photos of my dashboard on Facebook and several people asked for the code and instructions to build their own. This is a quick write up, not a planned article so please dont expect much proof-reading to happen.

Yes! – 3D Printing PPE For Medical Staff and Frontline Workers is a HORRIBLE idea but here is why I will continue to do it

K

Over the past 3 weeks, I have been running 2-3 of my 3D printers almost non-stop to crank out face shields, masks and ear savers that are being donated to first responders and other frontline workers in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic. As of this posting, I have personally donated over 150 Face Shields and 30 face masks at no cost to those who are working at the front line to help to get this pandemic under control. I have had several people comment that I am wasting my time with printing PPE for first responders and I wanted to respond to some of these comments:

Tips for Surviving a Hurricane – 2019 Edition

K

I have lived in South Florida for almost 15 years and have seen my fair share of hurricanes. With the devastation that happened in Texas a few years from hurricane Harvey and the mess caused from Hurricane Irma, I wanted to revisit a post I wrote 2 years ago and do a write up on the steps I personally take to prepare for Hurricanes. I perform all of these steps prior to boarding up my windows.

I have been featured on several large websites including XDA-Developers, AndroidPolice, AboutChromebooks, BetaNews, Liliputing and countless Reddit/Social Media Posts.

Tips For Surviving Jury Duty In Miami-Dade County

K

I can honestly say that I don’t know anyone who actually gets excited with they receive a Jury Duty Summons in the mail and if there is a person like that, I can say that I am not one of them. Serving in a Jury may not be the most exciting event and may even post a bit of an inconvenience for you but it is a civic duty that all American Citizens should feel honored to take part in as it is the cornerstone of our justice system. This blog post is going to give some tips that I learned while serving my Jury Duty term this week. These tips are mainly for residents of Miami-Dade County so you should check with your county to see if the policies and rules vary.

A New Look for KMyers.me

K

This website has had the same look and feel for a few years but I have been wanting to give it fresh coat of paint for a while. I really did enjoy the old layout of the website however several of the template files have been broken for a while after a WordPress update (such as the responsive menu on mobile devices) which was the main reason for the change. This new template should also load faster on slower internet connections.
