Attention North Miami Beach Commissioner Paule Villard – A Lesson on Ethics and Nepotism
This website is a website that generally covers topics involving technology but something happened this afternoon that caused my blood to boil and I need to get this off my chest. Needless to say, this is not my normal sort of post. I was attending the City of North Miami Beach City Council Meeting with my grandmother and we both spoke out about the corrupt joke “Unsung Heros” event that the City of North Miami Beach hosted earlier this month. Instead of a event honoring true heros, this event was nothing more then a event honoring the Friends and Family of Commissioner Paule Villard, funded by the citizens of North Miami Beach.
I must preface what I am about to say with the fact that I am sure the women who were awarded the “Unsung Hero” award have all done amazing things in their life, they do not fit the definition of “Unsung Hero”.
Both my grandmother and I pointed out several problems with the event, specifically that instead of honoring some of the amazing unsung heros who have dedicated their lives to improving the City of North Miami Beach, Commissioner decided to select from a pool of Family and Friends which includes a personal faith leader of hers and her own daughter. The personal faith leader (Apostle Nelly Joseph) does not appear to have had any noticeable contributions to society, specifically the residents of North Miami Beach. Paule’s Daughter, Ashlee Villard is a police officer in Ft Lauderdale seems like an amazing person but I am unable to locate anything that would justify a “Unsung Hero” award.
The whole Unsung Hero Event was essentially nothing more than a vanity project to throw a party for her friends and family on the taxpayer dime.
After the public comment, Paule Villard made a comment to my grandmother that stated “I will be sure to run the list by you next year” in a very snarky voice. She of course had to get the last word in but instead of a insult, this statement is more of a confession. A confession that Commissioner Paule Villard, in her official capacity of a Commissioner of North Miami Beach, created a list of “Unsung Heros” which only consisted of family, friends and wealthy individuals she is trying to impress to receive awards. This by definition is Nepotism.
Nepotism, by definition is a form of favoritism which is granted to relatives and friends in various fields, including business, politics, entertainment, sports, fitness, religion, and other activities. This is a huge problem for Paule Villard who ran this event as an elected official of the City of North Miami Beach. I strongly encourage Paule Villard to read Florida’s Code of Ethics, I will be submitting multiple formal ethics complaints regarding this event.
