RANT : HD Video Tax

K

I can often be called an early adopter of new technology and was thrilled to give up my DVDs and VHS tapes for the simplicity of purchasing my content on streaming media services such as Google Play Movies or (Affiliate Link)Amazon Instant Video. You simply cannot beat the selection offered by these services and you don’t ever need run into issues with the movie being sold out or scratched DVDs. Unlike services such as Netflix, Amazon Instant Videos and Google Play Movies allows you to take content offline for use in situations where you do not have access to a high speed connection. It is almost a Utopian solution except for one glaring problem… the Upcharge for HD content.

Critical Apple iOS SMS Messaging Bug Fix

K

By now, it is likely that you have seen postings about a serious new iOS messaging bug in your various social networking sites. This bug allows a person with malicious intent to cause an iPhone to reboot or lock up with nothing more then a simple text message containing some specially crafted Unicode text. Furthermore your messaging application will fail to launch until the attacker sends a second message or you perform a workaround such as sharing a photo from the Apple Photos App. Apple is aware of the issue and are already working on a patch for a future update. There are some workarounds floating around the internet with a short term fix however this blocks message previews, this blog post will go over a long term fix that will render your phone immune to this bug.

Why Samsung Needs To Build A 2015 Nexus 10

K

In the weeks leading to Google I/O, it is not uncommon for Android Fanboys to let their imaginations go wild when it comes to guessing the latest hardware that Google will release in the upcoming year, if any. Back in 2014, Google took a gamble on partnering up with HTC to release the Nexus 9. The Nexus 9 was a very nontraditional Android Tablet and many Android fans will agree that while it did have a lot of positive attributes, it failed to reach the market share that Google wanted. Here are the reasons that I personally feel that Google should work with Samsung to build the next generation of Nexus 10 tablet.

Thoughts on Google’s Project Fi

K

Rumors of a Google sponsored cell phone service have been around since the launch of the HTC Dream in 2008. These rumors were accelerated with Google purchasing the VoIP provider Grand Central less then a year later (later re-branded to Google Voice). Google Voice had an amazing launch but later became a barren wasteland which failed to receive the attention it deserved, many felt their dreams of a Google phone service slowly die a painful death. Google Voice eventually became integrated with Google Hangouts which helped to jumpstart its use. Finally, on April 22nd of 2015, Google was ready to show off Project Fi, the first Google MVNO. Here are my thoughts

5 Web Hosting Myths

I have been an active member of the Web Hosting community for the past 10 years and I have seen my fair share of myths being passed as fact on various forums. This article was created to help expose many of these myths that are still being passed along as fact.

Tech Pet Peeves

K

My life is centered around technology and I like to stay current with the latest offerings. I read hundreds of articles, reviews and websites every week to gorge myself on the latest news that is circulating the internet and have come across several things that bug me. Here is a list of my top tech pet peeves:

Social First Phones – A History of Failure

K

Mobile phones of all sorts come and go all the time however there is a specific breed of mobile phones that are just around long enough to allow us to laugh at the 10 people that purchase them at full price only to be sold in a fire-sale a week after. These phones are known as “Social First” phones as they are built to prioritize social networking above other basic smartphone functions. These phones rarely last more then a few weeks on the market before rapidly being discontinued and forgotten about.

ipad-log-lack-of-updates

I know that this website has been a bit barren with iPad Log Updates so I wanted to let everyone know that I am still testing the iPad and using it as my daily driver. I have decided to cut back on the daily logs in order to not completely spill the beans on my final write up at the conclusion of this trial. The iPad is still alive as of this writing and I have been able to find a few redeeming features but for the most part, I still feel that Android is the superior platform.
