Joseph Hindy – 2015-01-22 21:03:28-0500 – Updated: 2015-01-22 21:06:22-0500Nvidia Shield Tablet but only because, even at 64 bit, a dual core device seems “underpowered” for me and that makes the Nexus 9 a little not as good lol. Also, sd card slot, slightly smaller size, and better for games should you ever need that.
It’s also literally as easy to root as a Necus (fastboot OEM unlock, fastboot flash recovery, flash SuperSU.zip).
Plus built in stylus and a good folio case make it easy to carry around.
It has some hiccups though and I don’t know what the complaints against the Nexus 9 are. Keith I Myers – 2015-01-22 21:04:36-0500+Michael Moyer – Mainly a consumption and productivity tool. I spend A LOT of time online for work.Sean Riley – 2015-01-22 21:05:45-0500I just don’t like the size of the Nexus 9. It’s a weird middle ground that doesn’t rise to the level of large tablet, but is still too big to bring along everywhere. I have the WiFi Shield and have been impressed with everything other than the standby battery life which could use work. Keith I Myers – 2015-01-22 21:06:57-0500+Joseph Hindy – The MicroSD card is a huge advantage for me especially as there are no 64 GB Nexus 9 tablets (not sure why Google still insists on a 16 GB version).
In all honesty, I do already own a Nexus 9 WiFi but I always carry a few devices with me. Michael Moyer – 2015-01-22 21:07:19-0500+Keith I Myers if it were me, I would go with a chromebook Joseph Hindy – 2015-01-22 21:07:37-0500+Keith I Myers well in that case another pro for the shield tablet = variety. And yeah, the SD card slot is awesome. Keith I Myers – 2015-01-22 21:11:00-0500 – Updated: 2015-01-22 21:11:53-0500+Michael Moyer – Already have a few of those
Edit – Here is what I carry with me daily – https://kmyers.me/current-technology/whats-in-my-backpack/Roberto Mezquia Jr – 2015-01-22 21:12:29-0500+Joseph Hindy I haven’t found hiccups with my N9 except one area… I use my tablet for work so I created a profile just for that… The hiccup I see only happens when I initially switch profiles and it seems to take a bit to get in gear and at cruising speeds… Other than that, lollipop runs flawless for me on it… Keith I Myers – 2015-01-22 21:14:15-0500+Roberto Mezquia Jr – I have a large number of hiccups, even launching the App Drawer at times can lag. Roberto Mezquia Jr – 2015-01-22 21:15:34-0500+Keith I Myers I have the 32gb model if that makes a difference lol… I’m also 100% stock locked etc on it too…Keith I Myers – 2015-01-22 21:19:07-0500+Roberto Mezquia Jr – Same, completely stock. I did unlock the bootloader but I have not done any other modifications (it is not rooted). It is a 32 GB unit.
I also do not have any background apps that I did not have on my Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 which did not have this problem. Adam Outler – 2015-01-22 21:43:59-0500Nvidia shield. For all the reasons Hindy mentioned, plus since Linus gave them the finger they turned around and are now the most open. Mandi Hobbs – 2015-01-22 22:18:20-0500NVIDA is amazing I want the NExus 9 only because I am partial to Nexus devices but, in the long run i know the NVIDIA is much better for gaming and graphics 😛Corey Miecielica – 2015-01-22 23:56:40-0500Nvidia sounds like a beastKeith I Myers – 2015-01-23 09:24:38-0500Well, I guess the Shield will be my next additionChris Pugrud – 2015-01-23 13:14:14-0500I really like my 9 and I’m considering an LTE 9, but I’l wait to see how you like the Shield.
