Please think twice about integrating Apple’s CarPlay into your cars. Aside from the clear fact that Android is capturing market share at an astounding rate, Apple’s decision to use proprietary cable connectors in their  devices makes your cars far from future-proof when Apple decides to change the ping layout again.

Case and Point, Look how many cars came with an Apple 30 Pin connector that are now going unused?Dear All Car Manufacturers,

It comes with A2DP, USB and HDMI then standard composite A/V just in case. The A2DP supports app enhancement with Android (dunno about iOS). For example, pair up my wife’s DNA or my Note 3 then hit the “Pandora” option, and it starts Pandora on the phone, gets meta-data and provides feedback for things like thumbs-up/down. Honda’s Aha integration is even more amazing and also needs nothing but a standard A2DP connection over BT.

Why would a car even need a cable for a phone (other than a charger)? Either it should be fully universal like BT or USB, or a larger standard like HDMI/MHL.Dorian Sanchez – 2014-03-05 01:30:08-0500But then car manufacturers miss out on the opportunity to force customers to upgrade their model so that it works with their new iphone. it’s the perfect partnership, every year that apple comes out with a new iPhone, then car makers also get a line at their dealers too!Alvin Bryan – 2014-03-05 04:49:09-0500anything #proprietary  and i hear #itsatrap  !!!Michael Richardson – 2014-03-05 12:08:09-0500+Dorian Sanchez OR every year, the owners of those cars find more and more reason to go buy another manufacturer that doesn’t play that game? 🙂
