ChromiumOS for the GPD Pocket R77-12257.0 Released

If you are a user of ChromiumOS for the GPD Pocket 1 or 2 ultra-portable computers; you should start seeing a new update rolling out. This update is version R77-12257.0 and contains a few minor stability improvements for both the GPD 1 and GPD 2 devices. This is the first of the promised weekly updates of ChromiumOS for the GPD Pocket. Here is a list of the changes;

I am working hard to bring feature parody between the GPD Pocket 1 and GPD Pocket 2 however this build is mainly designed to stabilize the build further. I am hoping to get sound and Bluetooth working on the GPD Pocket 1 within the next week, this already works without issue on the GPD Pocket 2.

R77-12257.0 Changes

GPD Pocket 1

  • Minor stability updates
  • Battery Life Improvements (removing a few unnecessary services)

GPD Pocket 2

  • Video Out over USB-C is now fully supported – this has been tested with both a USB-C Generic HUB and a USB-C Dongle
  • Battery Life Improvements (removing a few unnecessary services)
  • Minor Stability changes to allow ChromiumOS for the GPD Pocket 2 to be installed to a MicroSD card

Users who already have an older version of ChromiumOS for the GPD pocket will automatically be upgraded to this release over the next few days. You can force an upgrade by selecting “About ChromiumOS” in the settings and clicking on “Check for Updates”. The upgrade package is around 400 MB, you will be prompted to reboot your GPD once the upgrade has been completed.

If you want to install this on your GPD Pocket 1 or GPD Pocket 2, please visit the project pages below.

  1. Thanks so much for your hard work! I’ve been looking for a good OS to use as the main OS on my P2, so I’ve been really excited to try Chromium OS to see if it fits my need.

I tried to trigger an update check on my Pocket 2, which is currently at build 12249.0.2019_06_04_1701, but it immediately tells me that I am running the recent-most version. Could you point me to what I might be doing wrong? I’d love to get your latest updates.

    Thanks very much!

    • Good Morning Dave,
I have temporally taken the OTA down for a few hours so I can try to add the bluetooth support on the Pocket 1, it should be back online within a few hours.

  2. Hi Keith, I have installed this build on my Pocket 1 and it worked fine and I shutdown and charged overnight. I tried to boot today and it gets to the chromium splash screen and goes not further. How do I see what is wrong in the boot? I tried the different boot options but they all just give me a black screen.

    Thanks, Eric

  3. Thanks Keith, sorry I did read that I did not remember when I was doing the startup from power off.
If you need any help testing etc. I am happy to help. I really like what I see so far.
